Utah Bass Federation Nation at Jordanelle

Fishing No Comments »

You heard it right folks, the UTBFN is having a tournament at Jordanelle on Wed. June 25th.

It will be a boater / non-boater format with a $100 entry fee for both sides.  Boaters will compete against boaters and nons against nons.  It will be a paper tournament using the Golden rule.  We have run several of these (golden rule) tournaments over the past two years and they seem to work pretty good.

The limit cap on the tournament will be 20 boats.  If you are not a member of the UTBFN you can enter by paying an additional $5 associate fee.  If you wish to become a member of the UTBFN or have any questions concerning this or any other scheduled UTBFN tournament call Tournament directer, Tom Nokes at 801-201-4764.

Be cool, stay in school.

Hey yo, how’s going?

Lake Powell is coming up damn near a foot a day.   HOLY MACKERAL!  We haven’t seen this kind of rise for quite some time.

Remember folks there is a UTBFN buddy tournament in conjunction with an Anglers choice team tournament this weekend out of Bullfrog.  Come fish one or fish em both but get yor ask to Bullfrog next weekend (6/7-8) and fish.  The water temp, as of yesterday was 64 degrees, sure, too cold to swim if your like me but the fish are probably banging off a door knob right know (if you know what I’m saying).

Catch a Cure - Starvation - June 21, 2008 - be there or be square.

My six year old nieghbor caught a 5lb smallie off the dock at Jordanelle yesterday.   “Way to go Mikey!”

Two organizations that need boat captains for tommorow are Women in the outdoors at East canyon (contact Brent McNee or George Sommer) and TBF/youth at Echo (contact Roger Mezenen or Adrian Alexander).

keep it cool, don’t drool

Fly out to Pelican

Fishing No Comments »

It’s that time of year again!   Hook on the old bass buggy (but don’t bother washing it) and head out to pelican,  sure it takes a few minutes to get there but it’s well worth it.

We had a club tournament out there on Sunday and the wieghts were pretty good (off the golden rule of course).   The winning wieght was Matt “Skeeter” France with over 18lbs., the next four weights were right in the 11-12lb range and rest followed closely behind that.   Sunday, with the weather pattern we were in, wasn’t the day to get a million bites but it still was fun fishing.

I went out there last Tuesday when the temp. was up, both water and air,  and caught fifty fish in five hours with half of them being pretty nice fish.

All in all, if you can stand the bugs and don’t mind giving your boat a serious bath when you get home, head out to Pelican, it’s the best game in town right now.

Hats off

Kudos and hats off to the Utah bass federation nation.  With the just completed western divisionals the total compensation to state team members was $100 in apprearel and a cash payment of $575.  Granted this did not cover all the expense put out by the state team members to participate in the divisional but it is a little bit closer to the old days (so I hear) and I’m very confident it will get better as the years roll on.

Finally

Fishing No Comments »

Ok, finally things slow down a bit and I can write on the old box.

First off, the B.A.S.S. federation nation western divisional, at lake coure de lane in Idaho, was a blast.  Our Utah team, who was made up of anglers from Utah and the Grand Junction area of Colorado,  finished 5th overall and the top finisher for our state was Rick Culver “congratulations again Rick and good luck at the nationals!”

Next up, the word going through the grape vine is one day Ticaboo is going to be a real town (resort) complete with a golf course and grocery store.  Don’t quote me on this just yet.

Finally, we have a UTBFN buddy tournament coming up on June 7th and 8th out of bullfrog and the fishing should be as good as it has been all year to date.  As of yesterday the big lake was at 3602 elevation and 65 degrees water temp. bring it on boys!

OK there is one more thing.  Everbody needs to mark there calanders for the two qualifiers coming up in August that could qualify you for next years state team.  The first is the UTBFN/B.A.S.S on Aug. 1st,2nd and 3rd and the second is the TBF/FLW on Aug. 23rd,24th and 25th.   BE THERE OR BE SQUARE.

Yo baby out

It’s Back

Fishing No Comments »

So the water level at the big lake is back to where it was before the ill conceived flood!  Yahoo, on to bigger and better things.

Ok next weekend (April 19,20) we have another set of tournaments.  First off we have the UTBFN buddy, everyone will want to check the payback on this one because it’s a good deal and you’ll want to enter.  The other tournament is of course the 3rd & 4th tournaments in Paul’s Anglers Choice series.   Both sets of tournaments are one day tournaments with entries and paybacks both days.

The following weekend we have the, oh so lovely and exciting, SPRING BULLFROG OPEN and the first club tournament of the year for TEAM AIR VISION PRO BASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rock on, be cool, peace out.

Warming up?

Fishing No Comments »

Is it warming up or isn’t it?  That is the question.

The first tournament of the year went down last weekend with out much of a hitch, if you like gail force winds that is.  It was a combined tournament with Anglers choice and the Utah TBF federation.  The Anglers choice side had a total of 27 boats with Kim Wooten’s boat taking top honors on Sat. and Jim Bishop’s boat pulling the top spot on Sunday.  On the Federation side Wayne Crowder’s team won it on Sat. and Donny and Ralph Smith won it on Sunday.  The fed. side had 15 boats.

The next tournament is April 19th and 20th at Bullfrog and is a combined tournament with Anglers choice and the Utah B.A.S.S. federation nation.  Conditions should be much riper for this one and the weights should be up there.

REMEMBER THE WEEKEND AFTER THAT IS THE SPRING BULLFROG OPEN,  APRIL 26TH AND 27TH.

The big flood

Fishing No Comments »

So I hung out down at the big lake during the big flood last weekend and let me tell ya brotha there was a damn current going on till they started ramp’n that baby down Sunday morning.

Fishing is pretty darn tough when the water drops 3 feet in 3 days but it was interesting.  The good thing (if there is one) is that the concrete ramp at bulfrog did not come out of the water and the lake is rising once again so we should be safely launching off cement and not have to get into the mud.

One last thing, as I was pulling my boat out on Sunday I notice orange spray paint on the ramp at intervals marking the elevation at those points.  My prediction is 3650 and when you get a visual of where that will put it (ecspecially those of us that have been hanging there the last six or seven years) it will blow you away.  One more good year and we might get to the top (I won’t hold my breath).

Federation support

Fishing No Comments »

Alright, so today I guess I’m really blog’n!!!!!

Being a tournament fisherman for the last eight years and invloved with the respective federations for the last six I have come to this opinion.  Most (99.9%) of the bass clubs out there are affiliated with one federation or another  whether it be the TBF, the UTBFN, SUBA, NUBA or whatever.  Having said that I believe most clubs out there really are only out there because of there respective federations and what there respective federations offer or have offered in the past.

OK, now having said that and being a member in good standing with both the UTBFN and the TBF, I think it’s absolute bullshit for any club affiliated with any federation to plan a club event on top of an event sponsered by thier federation without running it in conjunction.

The federations count on the club support just like the clubs count on the federation insurance for thier club events.

Think about it folks, don’t be stupid, support your federations and they’ll support you.
